Opposite Movement

Exploring the motivations, expectations, and circumstances that drive people to leave their rural homes and build new lives elsewhere or the decision of others to leave the big city behind and move to the relative solitude of rural areas - are central topics in my work for the Kumano Project.

Leaving and coming back, finding a new identity, but then returning for whatever reason. How can this succeed and how does one experience the boundaries, the right measure, the middle in the inside and outside? ...I leave and come back. Who am I when I return? Which place can I take again and how do I find the once abandoned places?

My own experiences with these aspects, as well as impressions from an earlier stay in Kumano, the local landscape and materials will determine the final form of the abstract ceramic sculpture.

人々が故郷を離れ、ほかの場所で新たな生活を築こうとする動機、期待、状況、あるいは大都市を離れ、比較的孤独な地方に移住する人々の決断を探ることは、熊野プロジェクトにおける私の仕事の中心テーマである。

旅立ちと帰還、新しいアイデンティティーの発見、そして何らかの理由による帰還。どうすれば成功するのか、人は内と外における境界、正しい尺度、中間をどう経験するのか？ ...私は離れて戻ってくる。戻ってきたとき、私は誰なのか。どの場所に再び行くことができるのか、そして一度は捨てた/離れた場所をどのように見つけるのか。

これらの点に関する私自身の経験、そして以前に熊野に滞在した際の印象、地元の風景や素材が、抽象的な陶芸の彫刻の最終的な形を決定する。
