Eating Our Roots I ルーツを食べる
In my work I use cinematic means to approach, explore and show the themes of home, homelessness and marginalized groups of societies. The idea for the project in Kumano is to look at the localization of "home", of "belonging"on the basis of the local food culture. Cooking and eating are universal languages that do not require verbal communication. Old, traditional knowledge is passed on from the older generation to the younger. Identity-forming action.
With my camera I want to seek out people in Kumano who want to share their knowledge of traditional Japanese cuisine. On the one hand, there will be small, intimate cooking sessions in private kitchens, but also there will be larger, joint cooking events in public places, where both the local people and the artists from abroad are welcome to share new culinary experiences together and then eat together. Different cultures and nationalities will connect regardless of communication skills.
Also I would like to document some cooking actions on film and make them available to younger people via the Internet for cooking at home.
The following topics will also emerge and become visible:
"What is traditional?", "How is home and belonging created", "What does my place mean in times like these and what does it mean to return to these abandoned places?", "Is the younger generation that has fled to the cities even coming back?", "Can cooking and eating together create closeness again today?", "What does it take?".

私の作品では、映像という手段を用いて、家、ホームレス、社会から疎外されたグループ、といったテーマに取り組み探求し、表現します。
熊野でのプロジェクトでは、地元の食文化に基づき、「家」や「帰属」の地域化について考察することを構想しています。料理や食事は、言葉によるコミュニケーションを必要としない世界共通の言語です。古くからの伝統的な知識は、上の世代から下の世代へと受け継がれていき、アイデンティティ（個性）を形成します。
私はカメラを持って、熊野で日本の伝統的な料理の知識を共有したい人を探したいと思っています。個人のキッチンでの小規模で親密な料理セッションがある一方で、公共の場での大規模な合同料理イベントも開催し、地元の人々も海外からのアーティストも共に新しい料理体験を共有し、一緒に食事をすることができるようにします。異なる文化や国籍の人たちが、コミュニケーション能力の有無にかかわらず、つながることができる。
また、料理の光景を映像に記録し、インターネットを通じて若い人たちが自宅で料理できるようにしたいと思います。
また、以下のようなトピックが生まれ、可視化されるでしょう。
「伝統とは何か」、「家や帰属意識はどのように作られるのか」、「このような時代に自分の居場所は何を意味するのか、見捨てられた場所に戻ることは何を意味するのか」、「都市に逃げ出した若い世代は戻ってくるのか」、「料理や食事を共にすることで今日再び親密さを作り出せるか」、「そのためには何が必要か」などです。
