Eye Story

Urban exodus is followed by rural exodus. Through the hasty departures and constantly demanded adaptations to new realities, the social connections fall by the wayside somewhere in between. The isolation of people seems to be spreading parallel with the pandemic more and more into or against society. For our project in Kumano, we take up the topic of these escapes and shifts by working with traditional as well as contemporary textiles and install them with and through photographs of short performative acts.
On-site, we will combine textiles we collected along the way with local discoveries in Kumano.
In Kumano we would like to ask the people living there for old fabrics, which have an individual or collective meaning, in order to sew them together with the collected, foreign materials. These pieces of fabric will then be installed on site and/or used in small performative acts which we document through photographs.
